What is Enlighten tooth whitening?
Enlighten is an award-winning tooth whitening system and the only one in the world to guarantee VITA shade B1, an industry standard natural white tooth colour. We view it as the most effective teeth whitening system currently available for home use. With Enlighten, we provide you with custom-made ‘super-sealed’ whitening trays and gels to use in the comfort of your own home for a minimum of six hours overnight over two weeks. The treatment is complete with a ‘power-boost’ session at our clinic at the end of the two-week home treatment to help preserve your whiter smile for longer.
Because of how the Enlighten system is manufactured, transported and stored, it is neutral at use, stable, and offers predictable performance and results.
What is Zoom! home tooth whitening?
Zoom! is another leading brand for home tooth whitening and the only professional take-home whitening system that includes amorphous calcium phosphate, which not only whitens teeth but also protects your enamel, reduces sensitivity, and helps improve the lustre of your teeth.
For convenience, we offer two versions of Zoom! home whitening - DayWhite or Nitewhite. Our DayWhite whitening gel can be worn in your custom-made whitening trays for 15 to 30 minutes twice daily, or our NiteWhite whitening gel can be used for one to two hours or overnight. You should see the maximum results in just seven to 14 days.
Why do teeth discolour?
There are all sorts of reasons why teeth become discoloured and one of these is age because, as we get older, our teeth naturally darken. Food and drink can also be a factor and our teeth can become stained by tea, coffee, red wine and curries. Smoking will also darken the teeth, and some people just naturally have darker teeth than others.
How do I know what whitening results I can expect?
After carrying out a shade test, our clinicians will advise which tooth whitening treatment will give you the best results. With tray whitening, we will make mouths guard to fit your teeth precisely and provide tubes of whitening gel which is applied. The mouth guards are then worn for a specified time each day until the desired shade has been reached.
The improvement is usually several shades lighter. For the best appearance, we would usually aim for your teeth to be similar in colour to – and no lighter than – the whites of your eyes.
If you have stains on your teeth, we may recommend that you visit the hygienist for a deep clean, scale and polish to help minimise the stains before we begin your whitening treatment.
Is tooth whitening safe?
Tooth whitening is a safe procedure when performed by a qualified professional. Our fully qualified dentists and hygienists have many years’ experience of successfully providing tooth whitening to our patients across Bolton and greater Manchester. It’s important to be aware that teeth whitening can only be performed by GDC-registered dental professionals.
Does teeth whitening have any side effects?
Teeth whitening can have side effects, although they are minor and usually resolve themselves within a few days. The most common side effects are tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. Some people report having a sore throat if excess material is swallowed, as well as an altered sense of taste, and caffeine or tobacco withdrawal symptoms if you rapidly stop during the whitening procedure.
If you already have sensitive teeth or experience some discomfort when the hygienist carries out a deep clean, we may recommend that you use a sensitivity toothpaste for a few weeks before and after your whitening treatment. We can also supply a special serum to apply to your whitening trays if your teeth are very sensitive.
How long do the results last?
Typically, you can expect the results of your whitening treatment to last for around two years, but this depends on the amount of staining products you consume. In other words, if you’re a big red wine or coffee drinker, you may notice that your teeth return to their old colour sooner. Many people choose to top-up their treatment with home whitening once every other month to maintain the results. We can supply top-up gels on prescription.
The cost on your treatment will depend on whether you have home and/or in-surgery whitening, and the number of whitening trays you need to achieve your desired shade. As a guide, teeth whitening at Harwood Dental Care typically costs from £300.
|Zoom Home Whitening||from £300|
When you come to us for teeth whitening, we will provide a thorough estimate of your proposed treatment, giving you complete visibility and choice before you commit to going ahead.
If you are having teeth whitening as part of a wider treatment plan valued at £1,000 or more and you would like to spread the cost, we offer interest-free and low interest finance for up to 24 months.
