Simply Smile braces are made of clear ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured wires, which means that the whole brace blends to the colour of your teeth, making it very discreet. Simply Smile is specifically designed to straighten your front six teeth – sometimes called ‘the social six’ – so, rather than treat how your back teeth bite together, we focus on improving your smile. This means treatment is much quicker than traditional orthodontics.
Simply Smile braces exert light forces on to your teeth to gently encourage them into their new positions using a series of traditional and modified techniques. For more information visit www.simply-smiles.co.uk
Six Month Smiles
Six Month Smiles braces here in Bolton is a tooth-coloured orthodontic system that allows our adult patients from across Bolton and greater Manchester to achieve straighter smiles in around six to nine months using ultra-clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires. Some people are put off by the length of time they assume orthodontic treatment takes and many think they will have to have teeth taken out - but that’s not the case with Six Month Smiles at Harwood Dental Care. Six Month Smiles treatment is straightforward and ideal for improving the symmetry of the teeth, rounding out arches, improving overbite, alleviating crowding and improving gum levels.
You will need to visit us once a month to have new tooth-coloured wires and elastics fitted, and to make sure your teeth are moving as they should. For more information visit www.6monthsmiles.com
Secret Smile lingual braces are fitted to the back of your teeth making them totally invisible. Lingual braces are a firm favourite with celebrities and those in the public eye. Like Simply Smile braces, Secret Smile straightens your front six teeth, focusing on improving your smile rather than treating how your teeth bite together. Treatment is quicker than traditional orthodontics, which can take up to two years, and the fitting of the brace is totally painless. It is normal to experience discomfort from your teeth for a couple of days following fitting and adjustment. With Secret Smile braces, some people find that the brackets rub their tongue initially but we provide a special comfort guard for you to wear over the brace to protect your tongue from irritation for the first couple of weeks until you become used to the brackets. Do straight teeth = healthy teeth?
Apart from the obvious cosmetic advantages to having straight teeth, did you also know that there are health advantages too?
One of the hardest areas to reach when cleaning your teeth is in between them. This is where bacteria can lurk and it is as these bacteria feed that they excrete acid which attacks your teeth causing tooth decay. Keeping this bacteria at bay is vital, which means cleaning in between your teeth is vital.
Your dental hygienist will normally recommend flossing in between your teeth, this is one of the best ways of keeping this area clean, but if your teeth crooked it can make this area particularly difficult access.
This means that straight teeth are not healthy teeth per se, but because they are often easier to clean it is far more likely that they will remain healthier for life so long as you continue to clean them properly.
Are there natural ways to straighten teeth without braces?
Unfortunately, there aren’t any ways you can straighten your teeth without help. The most natural solution is to think about something like Invisalign which uses clear aligners instead of the conventional train track braces. These look and appear natural and can be removed for eating making them a great choice for people wanting to have straight teeth with no one else knowing.
Are there alternatives to braces and aligners?
Veneers and bonding can be used very successfully to straighten your teeth. One of the big advantages with using veneers and/or bonding is that the colour and shape can be corrected as well is the alignment - this often makes these restorative types of treatment for crooked teeth more desirable than straightforward orthodontics.
For some more advanced smile makeover cases, we may consider a combination of treatments, perhaps using orthodontics to move the teeth to a more suitable position and then a small amount of bonding to restore the shape and a final course of whitening to whiten them to the desired colour.
Will I have to have teeth removed to wear a brace?
We try wherever possible not to extract any teeth as part of our orthodontic care. However, sometimes the reason that teeth are crooked is because there just isn’t enough room - in this case, extracting maybe the best thing to do. The alternative is to look at things like expanding your arch. If your teeth are crooked because there isn’t enough room, it may be because the size of your jaw is too small. Modern techniques such as arch expansion can increase the size of the jaw thereby creating more room for all of the teeth to fit in.
Orthodontic treatment can straighten crowded or crooked teeth and move them into a better position. This not only improves your smile but also the way your teeth bite together.
When you come to us for quick braces or aligners, we will provide a thorough estimate of your proposed treatment, giving you complete visibility and choice before you commit to going ahead. If your cosmetic dental treatment is valued at £1,000 or more and you would like to spread the cost, we offer interest-free and low interest finance for up to 24 months.
